Sharks are unique and play a crucial role in keeping our ocean healthy, but we are close to losing some shark species forever. Interested in sharks? Take the PADI AWARE Shark specialty in Bali. Bali is still lucky to have a few shark species around. In the Project AWARE Shark Conservation Specialty you will learn what you can do to keep it that way and give sharks a fighting chance, on Bali and other locations around the world. And what’s more, you will learn how to identify and where to find sharks common to Bali’s seas.
Depth: depending on certification level
Duration: 1 day, 2 dives
Who can join: If you are at least 12 years old and have the PADI Open Water Diver Certificate you can join the course.

After successfully finishing your course, you will receive the AWARE Shark Conservation Diver certificate. This PADI Specialty counts towards your Master Scuba Diver Rating and can also count as an adventure dive for your PADI Advanced Open Water course.

The Project AWARE Foundation is the scuba diving industry’s leading nonprofit environmental organization. It is dedicated to conserving the aquatic environment through education, advocacy and action. Next to the AWARE Shark Conservation Diver and Diving against Debris courses, Joe’s Gone Diving offers a few non-diving AWARE courses: the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation and the Project AWARE Specialist courses. As both courses don’t involve any diving, they are a great way to spend your last day before flying.
Duration: 1/2 day
Who can join: Anyone can enroll for the Project Aware Specialist and Coral Reef Conservation courses.
The AWARE – Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches you about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarizes you with the current state of the world’s coral reefs and how you can help.
In the Project AWARE Specialist course you learn about some of the most pressing problems facing these vulnerable environments. And everyday actions you can take to help conserve them. It’s informative, interesting and most importantly, you learn how to make a difference.
After successfully finishing your course, you will receive the AWARE Specialist or AWARE Coral Reef Conservation certificate. These AWARE Specialties count towards your PADI Master Scuba Diver Rating.
Every year tens of thousands of marine animals and seabirds die from eating or getting tangled up in marine debris – or trash in the ocean. Marine debris also damages habitats and is expensive to remove. Only divers have the skills to tackle underwater marine debris. Learn how to remove debris safely and record the data to help create a better planet.
Depth: depending on certification level
Duration: 1 day, 2 dives
Who can join: If you’re at least 12 years old and a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or higher, you can join the AWARE – Diving Against Debris course.
Your dive instructor will first take you through several presentations or will give you some study materials to study beforehand. During this 1-day course you will learn what marine debris is, where it comes from and how you can be part of the solution to the problem. You will learn how to conduct a survey, how to create your own, and will put it all into practice during 1 or 2 “reef clean-up” dives. With the Diving against Debris course you will be helping to clean up the ocean, one dive at the time!
After successfully finishing your course, you will receive the AWARE Diving against Debris certificate. This AWARE Specialty counts towards your PADI Master Scuba Diver Rating.
