Let’s have a look at scuba tanks, we kind of take them for granted, you arrive at the shop, get a scuba tank, we connect them to our BCD and regulator and go diving.

Scuba tanks are relatively small, yet very strong that hold large volumes of compressed gas.

Before you use a scuba tank check for the following:

• Check the valve O-ring. Give it a close look for cracks, if it’s clean, rub your finger over it to remove any dirt on the o-ring, replace if necessary.
• Check the hydro stamp. Make sure it has been hydro tested in the last 5 years, some countries it has to be done more often.
• Check the valve action. If a valve is hard to turn, slips or sticks, it needs service, but as long as it doesn’t leak it’s nothing to worry about.
• Ask for the last visual inspection date. Although not mandatory in a lot of countries, it shows the shop cares and it concerned about safety, there are no markings on the tanks for this, you will have to ask the question

At Joe’s Gone Diving Bali all are tanks are visually inspected once a year and hydrostatically tested every 5 years.
